2009 NCAA FBS Season [Archive]

January 8 - The Alabama Crimson Tide (14-0) completed an undefeated season with an impressive 37-21 victory over the previously unbeaten Texas Longhorns in the BCS National Championship Game in Pasadena. The win assured the Tide both the BCS National Championship and the Rogers Poll Championship. Last year's Rogers Poll champion, Texas, finishes the year 13-1 with the #2 ranking.

#3 Florida (13-1), like Texas, suffered their only loss of the season at the hands of the Crimson Tide. After the loss in the SEC title game, Florida bounced back to win the Sugar Bowl in convincing fashion, 51-24, over Big East champion Cincinnati.

#4 Boise State (14-0) defeated TCU in the Fiesta Bowl to join Alabama as the nation's only two undefeated teams. Rounding out the top ten are #5 Cincinnati (12-1), #6 TCU (12-1), #7 Ohio State (11-2), #8 Iowa (11-2), #9 Virginia Tech (10-3), and #10 BYU (11-2).

The Big Ten led the way with 4 teams in the final Top 25. The SEC, Big XII, Big East, ACC, and Mountain West placed 3 teams each. The Pac-10 and Sun Belt conferences each had 2 representatives. The WAC and MAC each had one.

The #116 Washington State Cougars (1-11) of the Pac-10 are the only team from an AQ conference in the bottom 10. Western Kentucky, in their first year as a full-fledged FBS member and Sun Belt conference representative, clinches their hold on the unenviable #120 spot after their 0-12 campaign.
